Avient Protective Materials B.V. in Heerlen produces a high-performance PE fiber used in applications such as ropes, nets, gloves, and ballistic vests.

From a sustainability perspective, the aim is to reduce waste volumes to improve efficiency or to process the waste in a sustainable manner.

Currently, one waste stream is still sent to landfill because it cannot be processed otherwise—precisely due to the fibers' superior properties. The goal is to eliminate landfill disposal.

At Avient Protective Materials B.V. in Heerlen, you will work independently to devise potential solutions to prevent landfill disposal. The source of the waste—including its location, volume, and origin—has already been identified. Part of the assignment involves redesigning the collection system so that the waste stream is suitable for further processing, whether through waste-to-energy, recycling, or reuse.

You will carry out this assignment in consultation with operations, logistics, and the waste processor. The ultimate goal is to design a viable solution for processing the waste stream in a way that avoids landfilling.

We aim to arrive at a final solution for eliminating landfill disposal within a motivating environment. Ideally, the solution should be tested as a prototype and approved by the waste processor before the end of 2026.

If successful, the plan is to roll out the solution across all production lines.
